Summer in the Pitztal

Experience the mountains on the roof of Tyrol

Alpine meadows, Swiss stone pine forests, glacier air – stories from the Pitztal mountain summer.

The Pitztal mountain summer

Genuine. Natural. And a little quieter.

Sunbeams dancing between rugged mountain peaks, babbling mountain streams in lush alpine meadows and ancient Swiss stone pine forests giving off their scent – that is summer in the Pitztal.

The valley is nestled between the striking mountain ranges of the Kaunergrat and the Geigenkamm. When the snow retreats to the high Alpine areas, it’s time to explore the Pitztal with all your senses: hiking and mountain tours, climbing, trail running or mountain biking, plus destinations for an entertaining summer holiday.

Longing for a relaxed mountain summer close to nature? We have it – at Sonnblick at 1,616 m, in the heart of the inner Pitztal valley.

Climb high, breathe deeply

Coffee with a view of the Wildspitze

Café 3440 is not only a magnet in winter. In summer you can relax and enjoy the view of the majestic Wildspitze – the highest peak in North Tyrol seems close enough to touch.

Café 3440 is considered Austria’s highest coffee house, and the cakes from what is said to be the country’s highest patisserie have long been known beyond the Pitztal. Best to see for yourself.

With the queen of the Alps

In the Hochzeiger area high above Jerzens stands one of the largest continuous Swiss stone pine forests in Tyrol. In the ZirbenPark, everything therefore revolves around the stone pine, the “queen of the Alps”: at 17 stations, young and old learn interesting facts about this wondrous high-mountain tree.

The highlight is the 12-metre pine cone adventure tower with its 16-metre tube slide.

Chapter II · Alpine holidays at Hotel Sonnblick

In the mood for mountains

“Only where you have been on foot have you truly been.” Goethe already thought so – and we think the best way to discover the mountains of our home is on an Alpine holiday at Sonnblick.

Hiking

360 kilometres of paths to the “Marende”

More than 360 kilometres of marked hiking trails of all levels of difficulty make the Pitztal an El Dorado for mountain hikers. Leisurely hikers follow the alpine pasture paths and enjoy the “Marende” – the snack – at staffed huts and alpine pastures.

Experienced mountaineers join a Pitztal mountain guide and climb the valley’s steep peaks on demanding routes.

264 kilometres of trails

The Pitztal has an excellent reputation as a trail running region: with 264 kilometres of marked trails, the valley is a trail running pioneer in Austria and received the Trailrunning Award in 2016.

The highlight of the year is the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail, whose starting places are snapped up in no time.
