Ski holiday in the Pitztal: 5 tips for short distances and respect for nature

Take the ski bus to the glacier, eat regionally, hire your equipment: five simple tips to save trips on your winter holiday and protect the mountain environment.

Skiing in the mountains and respect for nature are not mutually exclusive. With a few simple decisions you can save unnecessary trips in the Pitztal, protect wildlife and plants and make your holiday more relaxing at the same time. Here are our five tips for your winter holiday.

1. Take the ski bus to the glacier

The ski bus stops right in front of our hotel and takes you to the Pitztal Glacier in around 5 minutes – free of charge with a valid ski pass. Your car stays in the car park all week, and you save yourself looking for a parking space at the valley station. You can also reach the Rifflsee and Hochzeiger ski areas by ski bus.

2. Enjoy regional food

In our GenussWerkstatt we cook with products from regional suppliers. You can read which businesses they are – from the potato cellar in Arzl to the bakery in the valley – on our Austrian Ecolabel page. So you know exactly where the food on your plate comes from.

3. Hire equipment instead of buying it

You do not have to bring skis, boots and helmet yourself: sports shops in the Pitztal hire out current equipment. You save buying equipment you may only need one week a year – and travel with much lighter luggage.

4. Stay on the marked pistes

Away from the pistes live wild animals that need every bit of energy to survive in winter. So stay on the marked pistes and respect the designated quiet zones in the forest. If you want to go off-piste, only do so with a ski or mountain guide who knows the area.

5. Look for verified environmental criteria

GenussHotel Sonnblick holds the Austrian Ecolabel. You can find out transparently which concrete measures lie behind it and what we are continuing to work on on our Austrian Ecolabel page.

Good to know: all information on ski areas, cross-country trails and winter hiking in the valley can be found on our Winter in the Pitztal page.
